Every human in the world belongs to a tribe. Every tribe has a unique festival. In the Philippines, one of its tribe is the Subanen and one of the unique festivals of Subanens is the Pas’ungko Festival. Pas’ungko Festival comes from the Subanen word pas’ungko which means “Pasasalamat”.
Last November 8, 2010, we all see and witness the wonderful and beautiful dances of Pas’ungko Festival. The festival was a competition of dances of different municipalities and cities of Misamis Occidental. The festival was started with a parade. In the parade, the participants of the festival show there street dances. All the people along the street were entertained by the parade. The parade was ended at approximately 11:30 am. After the parade, I saw some excitement on the faces and eyes of the people in capitol area. They were so excited to what they may see to the competition at the afternoon.
When the competition was been started, there were full of excitement, enjoyment and nervousness not only to the viewers but also to the participants of the festival. Every participant tries their best. But in the end, the Tangub City has been proclaimed as the champion and it is followed by the municipality of Jimenez.
I am happy in that day because the culture of Subanen tribe still remained to the hearts of the people of Misamis Occidental.
