Summary of the story The White Heron

A young girl who was named Sylvia have came from the city to live in the woods with her grandmother; Mrs. Tilley. Sylvia have been living with her grandmother for nearly as year, learning to adapt to country ways. She helped the old woman by taking over some of the more physical chores, such as finding Mistress Moolly, the cow, each evening in the fields where she grazes and bringing her home. By means of this and other tasks, along with her explorations in the forest, Sylvia has become a country girl who dearly loves her new home. She has taken to it easily and immerses herself in her new life completely, as evidenced by the description of her journey home each evening with the cow. “…but their feet were familiar with the path, and it was no matter whether their eyes could see it or not.” One evening she was approached by a hunter, who was in the area looking for birds to shoot and preserve for his collection. This young man was searching in particular for the rare white heron and he was sure that it made its nest in the vicinity. He accompanied Sylvia on her way with hopes of spending the night at her grandmother’s house. Once he had received this invitation, he made himself at home, and after they eat, he said that he will give a sum of money to anyone who can lead him to the white heron. The next day, Sylvia accompanied the hunter into the forest as he searched for the bird’s nest, but he didn’t found it. In the evening, the girl can’t sleep so she decided to go out and looked for the bird by herself so that she can be sure of showing the hunter its exact location when he awakes. She decided to climb the tallest tree in the forest so that she can see the entire countryside, and she found the heron, just as she had thought she would. But Sylvia was so affected by her tree-top observation of the heron and other wildlife that she couldn’t brought her to disclose the heron’s location to the hunter after all, despite his entreaties. Sylvia knows that she would be awarded much-needed money for directing him to the heron, but she decided that she couldn’t play any part in bringing about the bird’s death. The hunter eventually departs without his prize.

Reflective Essay

A blog is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.

When our teacher Mrs. Christine Luz Z. Boniao told us to make blog, many of us especially me was happy about the news. We were happy because this was the first time that we will make our own blog. When I was making my blog I got confused about some of the tools used in the account because some of the tools were different from the tools used in my other accounts like facebook and friendster. But most of the tools were familiar to me. Even if the blog was hard to make but I enjoyed making it.

While I was in the process of learning how to make blog, I didn’t realize that I have been improved and enhanced my skills in writing compositions and my speed in encoding.

I am very thankful to Mrs. Boniao because I have been given a chance to post and show my composition outputs under the net. Thank you very much Ma’am.

"Change is a Factor of Success"

All we hear in the news this time is about change. Many societies and nations want change. We all want change. But we never get it because we don’t care about change and we never see change in ourselves. We all know change is important but why don’t we do it?
Many people around the world clamor for change. And I am one of them. For me, change will start from us. There are many things in my life that I want to change. And these are my bad characteristics and habits. I want them to be changed because this will affect my daily living. These things will affect me and my environment. And when I get affected to it, it may result to my sudden decline. And I never want it to happen in my life. That’s why; I want them to be changed.

After I made a change to myself, I will next make a change to the society where I belong. The change that I want to happen to my society is the change of its bad environment. Our environment has full of pollution. Pollution in the air, land, water and noise. I want this pollution be cleaned because it can cause diseases to our society. I myself will clean my environment and I will also convince my neighbors to clean also because it is a way of starting the change in our society.
After I make a change to my society, I will next change the nation. Our nation nowadays has full of crimes that happened. I want these crimes be eradicated in our nation because these are the factors why our nation never progressed. I want these things be changed so that we can be assured of safety.

The last thing I want to change is the world. Our world has full of problems, and I want these problems to be solved. I want these problems be changed by a happy life with no problems. I want that there is no war in the world and peace will prevail in our hearts. I don’t want to suffer from hunger. I want that no more poverty in this world.
To change is one of our major problems not only in us but also in our society, nation and world. It is our major problem because we don’t know how to change. As a student, citizen and human being, change is very important because it is one of the factors of our healthy living and success.

Our Values Today

All people around the world have values. They do work with it. For me, values may be classified as a manner. Our manner will tell us what is the values that we valued, if it is good or bad values. Every person has good and bad values because nobody has only one values that he/she valued. When you say that you have only good values and you have no bad values, it is not right because no people in this world are perfect. In addition, when you say that you have only bad values, it is not right because every person in this world has good values that they treasured.

As the time goes by, our values is getting bad. Our values were affected with our human needs and not by our spiritual needs. We humans now a day have no satisfaction of what we got. We want everything in the world that makes us bad or good. However, majority of the things in this world now a day can make a person bad because we only think of our positions in life and not the spiritual position we have with God.
In order to prevent our deteriorating values, we shall give our selves to God because he is the one who made us. We shall pray and listen to the good words of God in the bible. We shall follow God’s commandments. We shall spread the words of God in the World. I, my self will say, “I am the start of the change in our values.”

My Teacher, My Hero

All people in this world start from a baby that has less knowledge to the things around us. However, as we grow up older, our knowledge is also getting bigger. In our present time, we use our knowledge in our daily works. However, can we get this knowledge without a guide? Can we develop ourselves without a model? Moreover, can we survive the problems of the world without a teacher that teaches us to solve the problems of life?
All of us are born with guide in our side. A guide that leads us not only to success but also to the right path. A guide that we can make him/her a model and a hero. One of this guides are the teachers. For teachers do their job with happiness and contentment. They give their time to us because they want us to learn. They treat us as their second child. For me teachers are heroes because they try their best to teach us. They are heroes because they are fighting poverty. They want us to develop our skills. They give us advice to our problems in life and an advice that we should make our dreams come true with action, courage, and faith. All teachers in this world are heroes. However, for me, there is one teacher I love the most. That teacher is Mrs. Teresita Inot. She is my elementary teacher. She gave me an advice that I must aim high and I must make my dreams come true. She gave me an advice about my problems in life. She shared her problems to us that she cannot tell to her family. In addition, I am thankful that Mrs. Inot is part of my journey.
To all the teachers in the world, we the students may say that thank you for the ideas we learned, to all the advice and to all the help. And we say that all teachers are heroes.

“Pas’ungko Festival”

Every human in the world belongs to a tribe. Every tribe has a unique festival. In the Philippines, one of its tribe is the Subanen and one of the unique festivals of Subanens is the Pas’ungko Festival. Pas’ungko Festival comes from the Subanen word pas’ungko which means “Pasasalamat”.
Last November 8, 2010, we all see and witness the wonderful and beautiful dances of Pas’ungko Festival. The festival was a competition of dances of different municipalities and cities of Misamis Occidental. The festival was started with a parade. In the parade, the participants of the festival show there street dances. All the people along the street were entertained by the parade. The parade was ended at approximately 11:30 am. After the parade, I saw some excitement on the faces and eyes of the people in capitol area. They were so excited to what they may see to the competition at the afternoon.
When the competition was been started, there were full of excitement, enjoyment and nervousness not only to the viewers but also to the participants of the festival. Every participant tries their best. But in the end, the Tangub City has been proclaimed as the champion and it is followed by the municipality of Jimenez.
I am happy in that day because the culture of Subanen tribe still remained to the hearts of the people of Misamis Occidental.

“What Christmas Means to Me”

Sleigh bells ring are you listening
In the lane snow is glistening
A beautiful sight were happy tonight
Walking in a winter wonderland

It’s Christmas time; it is the time when everyone is happy. It is the time when families and close friends come home from all over the world to be with the people they love.
When it’s Christmas, people exchange gifts often and take it for granted. This holiday is usually associated with giving and receiving gifts. Personally, I think giving a gift is just as great as receiving one. Most of the time, giving can be even more enjoyable. The whole idea of finding that perfect gift, making someone smile is the way of making him/her feels the spirit of Christmas.
Christmas reminds us that our Savior Lord Jesus Christ was born to save us. The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ symbolizes hope and love. It also symbolizes peace to all the nations of the world and all are one in God.
Every Christmas, I try to wake up early so that I can attend the Misa de Gallo every morning and I try to complete it, not only to grant my wishes but to serve God and remember Him every second of my life.
Christmas has many meanings but for me, Christmas is the time of forgiving, sharing and giving love to each other. And Christmas time also reminds us that God is with us whenever and wherever we go. And may I sing:

“Let sing Merry Christmas and a happy holiday.
This season may we never forget the love we had for Jesus
Let Him be the one to guide us
As another new year starts
And may the spirit of Christmas
Be always in our hearts.”

Reaction Paper of the Story Thank You Ma’am

Before reading the reaction please read the story, Click Here.

The world has full of challenges. These challenges can retain our true color or true behaviors. All people in this world have both good and bad behavior. These behaviors can make us accomplish the task that we may encounter. As we accomplish a task using these behaviors, it will leave evidences on how we made it. If a person uses his good behavior in making a task, it will live talks which are good to hear after he/she finishes solving his/her problem. One example of this is found in the story Thank You Ma’am, in which Mrs. Jones accomplished her task in teaching Roger from wrong to right. A person will be easily known that he/she uses his/her bad behavior in solving his/her problems, if there are some bad talks about  what he/she did to solve his problems. An example of this is when Roger tried to snatch Mrs. Jones’s purse.
We all know that the story Thank You Ma’am was a story about a woman who brings a large purse and a boy who wants to snatch the large purse but he failed to do it. It is a story that tells us to trust people even if we don’t know them yet. Because in the story, Mrs. Jones trusted Roger and help him about his problem even if Mrs. Jones didn’t know him yet.
As I read the story, I remember some events that happened in my life. That event was when a man trusted me to take care of his son though even we don’t know each other. He wanted to return back to the city to get his sew because he was afraid to lose it. So I accepted his task to take care of his son because I know that he needs my help. I took good care of his son: After he came back from the city, I was happy at that time because I was able to help a person to solve his problem in a simple way.
As I finished reading the story, it came to my mind that Mrs. Jones was not right in trusting Roger because she didn’t know him yet and she was not sure that the money that she gave to Roger would really be used to buy the blue suede shoes. And also, she should not tell Roger that he will just approach a person when he needs something because all people have different behavior and it is not easy to find people same with her.
The story Thank You Ma’am gives a lesson to us. That lesson was to be good and have trust to strangers. It also tells us to forgive and not to guilt person about there mistakes to us. But in my opinion, it is not right to trust strangers immediately because we don’t know if that person has good or bad plan to us. But sometimes we trust strangers because he or she needs our help like in the situation of the story Thank You Ma’am, in which Mrs. Jones helped the boy, even if at first Roger wanted to steal her purse.
This story is a good choice for me to read because I’ve learned lessons out from it and I like it. I was delighted of some events in the story because like Mrs. Jones I also like to help other people.
The situation of the story Thank You Ma’am may also happen into a real life situation. We don’t know if this circumstance may be happening today, tomorrow, or another day. If this situation will happen in your life what should you do? Are you going to copy Mrs. Jones idea in resolving the situation?
